VSP Walkabout: a three-part training about the victim assistance Application
As part of contracts with the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS), CASA programs throughout the state are designated as Victim Assistance Programs and are empowered to work with families with children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect, as well as youth 18 or older who have been victims, to complete applications for victim compensation via the Victim Service Portal (VSP) provided by OVS. This three-part series is designed to familiarize with CASA program staff with victim compensation and the Victim Assistance Application.
Parts one and two provide background including what future services may be eligible for compensation. Part three is a step-by-step walkthrough of completing an application online. The companion handbook provides screenshots with explanations, as well as a checklist of information need to complete an application.
