CASA Advocate Supervisor, The Mental Health Association of Westchester, Inc., CASA of Westchester and Putnam Counties

Barbara worked as a corporate lawyer for over 20 years before joining CASA. For the last 9 of those years, Barbara was heavily involved in the world of commodities and derivatives (precious and base metals, foreign currencies, natural gas and electricity), both as outside, and in-house counsel. After an internal corporate reorganization in 2003, Barbara elected to take a pause rather than extend her commute another 30 minutes in each direction. An article in the local newspaper about a CASA Advocate caught her attention, and she signed up to train with the Westchester CASA Program in the fall of 2004. Her expectation was that this would be temporary and that she would return to practice law. CASA turned out to have a greater gravitational force than expected!

Family court and family law practice were about as remote from her previous legal career as one could get. Barbara discovered, however, that working with families and children, which comes with its own intensity, was far more gratifying than high intensity trading floors. Barbara was hired as a Staff Supervisor with the Westchester CASA Program in 2006, and is still there – now having helped to train and supervise numerous CASA Advocates over the years.

Barbara joined the State Association’s Board in 2007. For much of that time Barbara has served as a Vice President, and has chaired the Board and Fund Development Committee.
