Bequests
Legacies Protecting the Children of New York
Far Into the Future
You
can protect the children of New York far into the future by
including a bequest to the Association in a new will, adding
a codicil to your existing will, or naming the Association
as a beneficiary of your revocable trust. CASANYS gratefully
welcomes bequests for general operating support or for specific
long-term needs in consultation with our staff.
A
bequest to CASANYS is fully deductible for federal estate
tax purposes, and the tax laws do not place any limit on the
amount of charitable deductions that can be included in a
person’s estate. Charitable bequests are usually not
subject to state inheritance taxes.
Please
consult your legal advisor with regard to gifts of this nature.
He or she can provide you with full legal information and
ensure that the provisions of your will comply with your state’s
requirements. The following language is provided only as a
sample.
Types
of Bequests
You can select a way of helping CASANYS that best suits your
situation and needs:
- Cash
bequest – a specific dollar amount.
- Bequest
of property – specific assets, such as securities,
real estate and/or tangible personal property.
- Residuary
bequest – a stated percentage of the remainder of
the estate after payment of specific bequests and all
estate-related expenses.
- Retirement
plan bequest – CASANYS can be designated as a beneficiary
of any funds remaining in your IRA, 401K, tax-sheltered
annuity, qualified pension or profit-sharing plan.
-
Contingent bequest – A bequest is directed to CASANYS
in the event of the death of other beneficiaries.

Bequest Language
When including a bequest provision in your will use the full
legal name of the organization and provide its tax identification
number. The legal name of the Association is CASA: Advocates
for Children of New York State. Your legal advisor should
contact us to request the tax identification number.
“I
give, devise and bequeath (dollar amount, specific assets
or ___percentage of the residue of my estate) to CASA: Advocates
for Children of New York State for unrestricted purposes.”
Informing
CASANYS of Your Bequest
Individuals who inform us of their bequests automatically
qualify for membership in CASANYS’s Legacy Society.
As a member, you will be kept informed of the Association’s
developments. Although it is not required, if you are comfortable
sharing your will or the portion of it that contains your
bequest with the Association, it would be most helpful.
